Sen. Harry Reid is currently 11 points down in Nevada versus Danny Tarkanian, his Republican opponent. Nothing will curb Reid’s enthusiasm for Obamacare more than the threat of losing his seat in Congress. Hugh Hewitt, Instapundit and others are encouraging “$10 for Tark” as a way to send a message to Harry Reid.

The process is simple:

1. Donate money to Danny Tarkanian’s campaign.

2. Email Harry Reid and let him know that you’ve donated to Tarkanian and that you’ll keep giving him money so long as Reid threatens our health care system.

3. Drop Hugh Hewitt an email to let him know you’ve joined the cause - hugh@hughhewitt.com.

Here’s the friendly email I sent to Harry today:

Dear Sen. Reid,

I’m writing to ask that you stop pushing socialized medicine in the guise of a “public option.” I follow the debate quite closely, and believe it will be disastrous for our Republic. I have just donated campaign money to Danny Tarkanian, and will continue to do so long as you advocate socialized medicine. I’m sure you get many such emails claiming such support, but mine can be verified through Tarkanian’s financial reports.

I write this with all the respect due to you as one of the leaders of our country. God bless!

Yours,

J. Wesley Bush

The E-Verify program, a voluntary system with which employers can check the status of potential workers, has never been popular with Democrats. Senators Menedez and Reid have tried to spike extensions in the past, as has Nancy Pelosi. Despite their talk about immigration reform, the only reform which interests them is a weakening of enforcement. So it was no surprise that Democrats killed an amendment by Sen. Jeff Sessions to extend the program through 2014.

Democrats have instead given the plan a six-month extension, and hope to use it as a hostage in upcoming “comprehensive immigration reform” negotiations.
